I'm here too!
I'm the other bird, Wren. A nickname given to me by my mother as a skinny legged girl that roamed around in a daydream.
'tis true, Lark is the Author At Heart, I'm fairly certain her inner dialogue is in prose! I suppose I'm more the comedic relief to her quiet grace ~ but that knack for a laugh has served me well in life.
Our dream of a Fantasy Retirement Home for Aging Geeks has been slowly turning from pure silliness (Raoul the pool boy/massage therapist/deaf mute that cooks gourmet low-fat meals and rubs our feet) into a idea for a real retreat. At first we dreamed of a sprawling estate, with a Georgian Mansion where groups of women could meet for Grown-up Summer Camp. That has given way to a more manageable goal of a writer's retreat catering to a just a few guests at a time offering utter peace and tranquility to be quiet and finish "that project". We will be able to offer Beta Reading along with editing and proofreading services (I will be brushing up on those skills). We can see the opportunity in front of us to indulge in what gives each of us bliss, but we know we have to arrange and design this to give us a living. I don't even contemplate the steepness of our learning curve 'cause I'm afraid of heights.
Lark likes to ride zip-lines.
Some of our plans are pure pipe-dreams, others are more feasible, and somewhere there in the middle lies our own version of Nirvana. Join us as we discover what's possible, what's impossible, and what we'll just do anyway.
I'm pretty sure Raoul will be there too.
We wanted to write something about being sisters, both of us turning 50 soon, and how you're never too old to follow your dreams. About how we wanted our friends to join us as we blog about our experiences, and the mighty deep learning curves we're sure to experience! There was going to be something cute about killing two birds with one stone, and having a laugh while you relax, but in the end....we couldn't think of anything cute to say, so I guess it's just ~~ Welcome to our adventure ~~

A Few Introductions
Greetings!
I'm Lark, and the would-be novelist of this pair of birds. I'm a Midwest girl with plenty of big dreams, but enough hard years in the business world to know that running a small business - even one I love takes a lot of work.
But I'll be working along side a friend who is as good as a sister to me - and we have lots of support from our families and those who love us. I truly believe we can be a force of good in this crazy-mixed-up-world!
Apart from writing I also love singing, traveling, gardening, reading, crosswords and all manner of crafting. There always seems to be lots to do, but not enough time to do them all!
I have two completed novels and a third nearing completion that I'm shopping around. So while I may not be an expert for our guests (yet!), I will be able to relate to their struggles to write and publish their work. I have hope that together we can help each other find success!
Time to fly!

Going Out On A Limb
Two Birds is a dream that started out as a sort of joke. I say "sort of" because even while were were making up silly what-ifs, there were some of us really thinking why-nots?
Gradually that fantasy get-away has become the more tangible idea of a retreat -- a place for writers or artists or any sort of creative types to feel comfortable, secure, encouraged and nurtured.
And honestly, I think we are both looking for the same thing. It is a passion project for us both; however, we want to be smart about how we go about it. Neither of us wants to be starting from scratch with our personal finances at this stage of our lives, and in an economy that has been so uncertain the past several years, it would be foolish to jump in without testing some waters first.
So this blog - at least initially - will chronicle our journey as we take steps to realize the goal of creating something good, not just for our potential guests, but for ourselves. And maybe... if we can make our little corner of the world a better place for creative minds, then they might go out into the world and make it better for all of us.
We hope you'll stay with us and watch our dream take flight!
